UAE shatters Nepal's dream to play Asia cup
The senior Nepali cricket team is facing the same problem for a long time. The team looks impressive in the league round. The players do not have to work hard to advance to the knock-out round. But once the team reaches the quarter-finals or semi-finals, the players fail to perform and Nepal return empty handed.
It happened in 2004 ACC Trophy in Malaysia when the team lost to Qatar in the quarter-finals. The same fate followed when they lost to the UAE in 2006 ACC Trophy and the biggest shock came earlier this year when they were stopped by Afghanistan in the semi-finals in the ICC World Cricket League Division V tournament in Jersey. >> more

Third CCRC Inter School Twenty20

CCRC clinch Twenty20 trophy
Hosts Capital College and Research Centre (CCRC) ‘A’ won the third CCRC Twenty20 Inter-college Cricket Tournament here today.
The win, however, came in bizzare circumstances. Chasing 103 set by Classic College, CCRC needed three runs to win with 19 balls to spare when Aakash Gupta struck the ball towards the boundary only to be denied by the Classic fielders. But CCRC supporters invaded the ground considering it to be the winning runs. Infuriated Classic refused to take to the field and the umpires awarded the match to CCRC.
Earlier, Classic were bowled out for 102 runs in 18. 4 overs after electing to bat first. Classic were tottering at 23-7 in the seventh over but contribution from Pradeep Airee (24), Dhirendra Chand (23) and Dinesh Agri (23) helped their team pose a respectable total. Chand struck two sixes and a four in his 17-ball innings while Agri hit three sixes in his 14-ball cameo. Man of the match Abhaya Rana claimed 4-26 for CCRC. Sanjam Regmi also picked up two while Mehboob Alam and Gyanendra Malla took one wicket each.
In reply, CCRC openers made a solid start putting on 40 runs in just 23 balls with Alam doing much of the damage. When Pawan Das (3) was dismissed in the last ball of the fourth over, Alam had already scored 36 off 16 balls with two sixes and four fours. Alam was also dismissed without scoring a run three balls later but by then CCRC were already cruising towards a comfortable victory.
Aakash Gupta remained unbeaten on 17 and Sagar Thapa made 10 not out. Anil Mandal chipped in with 14. When the match was obstructed CCRC were level on scores at 102-5. Kuldeep Khadka finished with 2-12 while Dhirendra Chand, Chandra Saud and Binod Bhandari took one wicket each for Classic.
Sunam Gautam of Kathmandu Don Bosco, who scored 78 runs and took seven wickets, was declared the man of the series. Gautam was awarded with Rs 10,000. Gyanendra Malla of CCRC ‘A’, who scored 103 runs, won the best batsman (104 runs) award while Pradeep Airee of Classic, who took eight wickets, was adjudged the best bowler. Malla and Airee won Rs 5,000 each. Dinesh Agri of Classic also earned Rs 2,000 as the scorer of highest number of sixes. The winners and the runners up got Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.

Classic, CCRC enter final
Classic College staged an amazing comeback to defeat Kathmandu Don Bosco College by 18 runs and set up title clash with two time defending champion Capital College and Research Center (CCRC) 'A' at the TU Cricket Ground on Friday.
Once down and almost out at 34/8, Classic managed to score 122/9 in 20 overs - thanks to a 76-run partnership between Dinesh Dangri and Chandra Saud. Don Bosco was then restricted for 104/9. In the first semifinal, CCRC 'A' defeated CCRC 'B' by 22 runs to enter the final. CCRC 'A' managed 108 in 19.4 overs and restricted CCRC 'B' to 86/5. The final will be played on Saturday. Dinesh was the hero in the second semifinal with his big hitting. He hit six sixes, two of which went outside the stadium, and scored 46 off just 24 runs. Chandra, who was slow at the start, took cue from Dinesh and hit four sixes and a four for his 38 off 22 balls.
The duo rescued Classic after a few run outs and tight bowling from Don Bosco had wrecked its top order. Don Bosco introduced Prithu Baskota's spin in the second over and was immediately rewarded with two wickets. Sunam Guatam's two wickets, a wicket each for Raj Kumar Pradhan and Manjeet Shrestha, and three run outs put Classic in trouble. The domination by Dinesh and Chandra was highlighted in the last over bowled by Prem Chaudhary in which Dinesh hit three sixes. In reply, Don Bosco played slowly saving the top batsmen for slog overs but the tactic failed as the key batsmen failed. Prithu (1), Shakti Gauchan (8), Sunam (8), Yashwant Subedi (7) and Manjeet Shrestha (1) all failed. Prem Chaudhary played a good knock of 37 runs. Chandra took three wickets while Pradeep Airee and Kuldip Khadka grabbed two wickets each.
In the first semifinal, CCRC 'A' lacked batting fireworks as expected but managed a defendable total. Mehboob Alam (5), Anil Mandal (5), Akash Gupta (0) and Gyanendra Malla (6) could not do much but contributions from Pawan Das (22), Antim Thapa (16), Raj Shrestha (11) and Sanjam Regmi (12 not out) took it to 107.
For CCRC 'B', Manish Singh took three wickets - thanks to three good catches from Rupesh Srivastava - and captain Sumit Shrestha walked away with two. Sumit also scored 28 not out while Subash Pradhan got 23 but CCRC 'B' failed to reach even near the total against the bowling attack led by Gyanendra (2/22).
